What is the purpose of white blood cells?

White blood cells are part of your immune system. If your body detects anything that isn't supposed to be there, the white blood cells are sent there to eat it up. When you get a cold or something, it means the white blood cells have been overwhelmed by the virus. Then your lymph nodes come in. But that's another story.
