Disc Compatibility Issues?

I just got the new Nancy Drew game, The Captive Curse, but (Murphy's Law) it doesn't work on my system, which is a Windows XP Professional. In the manual it says that it IS compatibler with just regular old Windows XP. Are XP and XP Pro really that different? Does it make that much of a difference. Or is there something wrong with my DVD drive?
